What is Rosella?
Known as Rosella or Roselle, it’s a flower that comes from the African continent with the Latin name Hibiscus Sabdariffa. The tea itself is a herbal tea which is prepared by boiling the parts of the flowers. It has similarity with cranberry – sour taste and red colour. However, rosella tea also has another variant color which is natural from the plants. The red rosella is very popular beverage throughout the world and is often used as a medical tea.
What is the different between red and purple?
The simple answer is the purple one has a strong taste. Purple rosella has a higher antioxidant content than red rosella. Because it has higher antioxidants, this purple roselle stew is also able to protect the liver from cell damage.
How do you make Rosella Tea?
Rosella tea can be enjoyed in hot or cold water. It is super easy to make rosella tea, all you need to make hot tea is a pan, water, 3-4 pieces of rosella flowers and honey or sugar. The same way for cold tea. The tea has a taste that is similar to cranberry. You can also add spices like cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, mint leaves, lemon wedges or ginger depending on your taste.
What is the health benefit?
According to USDA Nutrient Database, rosella tea has a good supply of mineral including calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, sodium, and zinc. It also contains B-vitamins like niacin and folid acid. This tea is a good source of anthocyanins, which may make it beneficial for managing elevated blood pressure levels, the common cold, and urinary tract infection.
